METAMORA - On Saturday, October 12th, the performance art called “marching band” will envelope the village of Metamora with band members, directors, parents and marching band enthusiasts. For 33 years, Metamora Township High School bands have hosted marching bands from throughout Illinois and the Midwest, featuring a fascinating blend of artistic movement, a variety of musical styles from classical to original compositions, and colors that wow audiences of young and old. Returning to the show and always a showstopper is the Rich Central High School Marching Band a traditional southern-style, show-style band, sure to be the highlight of the event.
This year, MTHS bands have teamed up with the Midwest Percussion Cooperative to present a drum line competition featuring all of the percussion sections from the competing bands. The drum line portion of the day will run side by side with the field portion with performances taking place in front of the Historic Metamora Courthouse on the village square, just 3 blocks south of the high school. There is no cost for admission to the drum line event.
The Metamora Band Invitational is actually two competitions in one. Smaller bands begin the show competing with bands of similar size and like their larger counter parts are awarded a Grand Champion for the smaller classes.
The show begins at 3:00 p.m. on Malone Field at Metamora Township High School, 101 E. Madison, Metamora, with the Metamora Redbird Marching Band taking the field at 9:00 p.m. Tickets prices are $5 for adults, $3 senior citizens, and $2 for students. For more information call 367-4151 x570.
