EUREKA – Randall Saxon, well-known Illinois historian, will speak on ‘Unusual Place Names in Illinois’ at the meeting of the Woodford County Historical Society at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 12. The meeting will be held at the Christian Union Church, 925 W. Walnut in Metamora. Dr. Saxon is co-pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, and he is also a noted Lincoln scholar who has come across some interesting and humorous place names in his research. The meeting is free and open to the public. 

Dedicated to preserving the past for the future, the Woodford County Historical Society also maintains a research facility in downtown Eureka where people can go to seek out their genealogical connections in Woodford County. The Research Room and its mini museum are open to the public from 1:00 - 4:00 PM on Wednesday and Friday afternoons or at other times by appointment.
