EUREKA – The Eureka College Theater Department will end its season with the rock musical “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” at 7:30 p.m. April 9-13 in Pritchard Theatre.

The music and lyrics are by Michael Friedman, with book by Alex Timbers. Eureka College assistant professor of theater Marty Lynch will direct.

The play is set in the Wild West and recounts the founding of the Democratic Party. It redefines the 7th U.S. president as a rock star and focuses on the issues of populism, the Indian Removal Act and Jackson’s relationship with his wife, Rachel. It is not based on historical fact, which will be discussed by the director as part of each performance. The play includes violence and adult language and situations, and no one under 18 will be admitted.     

Cast members are Timothy Jenkins of Watseka; Coleman Payne of El Paso; Justin “Gus” Peters of Pekin; Kelli Robinson of Henry; Jerrod Barth of Minonk; Joshua Moore of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; Jake Geiger of Morton; Louis Servant of Pontiac; Elizabeth Johnson of Heyworth; Rebecca Collins of Monee; Taryn Hefley of Maroa; Victoria Sabas of Champaign; Andrew Schoepke of Varna; Laura Hughes of Eureka; Tony Glass and Chris Tam, both of Washington; and Belle Grober, Scott Wignall and Matt Warren, all of Peoria.

The play received the Outer Critics Circle Award for the 2010 Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and the Drama Desk Award for the 2010 Outstanding Book of a Musical.
