EUREKA - Karen Fyke will teach the secrets of successfully making a sock monkey at the meeting of the Woodford County Sewing Guild at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. The meeting will be held at the Farm Bureau Building, 117 W. Center St. in Eureka (Parking is off Callender St.). The meeting is free and open to all.

Sock monkeys have been favorites since they were first made during the Great Depression. Using Rockford Red-heel socks, mothers fashioned the monkeys that quickly became childhood favorites. Constructing a monkey from a sock is not difficult if you know a couple of secrets, one of which goes against what has always been taught in sewing classes.

The Woodford County Sewing Guild is a neighborhood group of the Peoria Chapter of the American Sewing Guild. The group meets the third Thursday of each month at the Farm Bureau Building. All meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, call Karen Fyke at 309-467-4525 or 309-360-6772.
