EUREKA – The Eureka College Board of Trustees approved tenure, promotions and a sabbatical leave for faculty members at the board’s meeting Feb. 3. The awards reflect the commitment and excellent work of the faculty as teachers, mentors and scholars.
The tenure and promotions, all which take effect in August, were granted to: • Dr. Kevin Stillman, tenure and promoted to associate professor of chemistry. • Dr. Jessica Barr, promoted to associate professor of English. • Dr. William Wright, promoted to associate professor of religion. • Dr. Pat Grisham, promoted to associate professor of special education. • Dr. Debra Loomis, promoted to associate professor of special education. • Provost Dr. Philip Acree Cavalier, promoted to full professor of English. “Achieving promotion and tenure is an important career milestone for faculty,” said President J. David Arnold. “These board actions are the last step of a rigorous peer review process that examines teaching effectiveness, scholarship/creative activity and community service.” Dr. Kathy Whitson was awarded a sabbatical leave for the spring 2013 semester to advance her research on the stories of out-migration from Grainger County, Tenn., and more broadly from Appalachia. “The sabbatical leave reflects Dr. Whitson’s long-standing investment in scholarly work, as well as her service to Eureka College,” said Provost Cavalier. “She has been an excellent teacher and mentor to students for many years.”
