EUREKA – Eureka College has received a $75,000 grant from the Caterpillar Foundation to enable students to study in China. The grant is part of Caterpillar’s $1 million pledge to the U.S. State Department’s “100,000 Strong Initiative” to increase the number of American college students studying in China.

The Eureka College grant will allow five sophomores, juniors or seniors who are majoring in business administration, accounting or computer science to study at universities in Beijing, Hong Kong or Shanghai. The study opportunities will take place during the fall 2012 or spring 2013 semesters. The grant will pay for students’ travel expenses, tuition, housing and meals.
“The Caterpillar Foundation is proud to support U.S. college students studying abroad in China,” said Michele Sullivan, Caterpillar Foundation vice president. “It is our hope that this experience will give students some valuable insights on the global economy, the importance of China on the world stage and an unforgettable cultural experience.”
Eureka College Provost Philip Acree Cavalier said, “Thanks to the generous grant from Caterpillar, Eureka College will be able to help our students develop critical skills as cultural travelers that will prepare them well for their future careers.”
Eureka College will announce the grant recipients when they are selected this summer.
