EUREKA –The president of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society will be the keynote speaker at Eureka College’s 157th Founders’ Day convocation. The Rev. Glenn Carson will speak on “The Eureka Effect” at 4 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Cerf Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

Carson’s presentation will explore how the culture and environment of Eureka College produce profound changes in people’s lives,

using alumnus Ronald Reagan as an example in recognition of Reagan’s 100th birthday last year.
“The 40th president of the United States was baptized in First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dixon and was an active member there until he left home for college,” Carson said. “While the influence of Disciples faith was integral to his development as a youth, it was his experience at Eureka College that profoundly directed the remainder of his life.”
Carson directs the historical society of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Nashville, Tenn. It is the primary archives, library and museum for Disciples of Christ congregations worldwide.
Carson formerly was a pastor at churches in Missouri and South Carolina and a religion professor and campus minister at Charleston Southern University. He received a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from Valdosta State College and a master of divinity degree and a doctor of philosophy degree, both from Southwestern Seminary.
As part of the convocation, Eureka College first-year and upper-class scholars will be recognized. The students have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.75 after completing at least 15 semester hours of coursework for first-year scholars and at least 30 semester hours of coursework for upper-class scholars.
