The Life of Riley: Eat Healthy
By Jerry Riley
I know I don’t have the most healthy diet. I eat a lot of processed and frozen food, –well, not still frozen– I do defrost and thaw, or what ever is called for. I believe if it weren’t for this kind of food, people like me would starve. I was talking to some health care professionals the other day and I found that some of my definitions are not exactly correct –and what a revoltin’ development that is! For instance, “everyone” says we should be eating a balanced diet. Doesn’t balanced mean even? The term “diet” has come to mean a weight loss program, but diet is simply what you eat. Well, I put the two together, my way, but was told a cookie in each hand is not considered to be a balanced diet. Not that that’s only thing I don’t seem to have a firm grasp on, food wise, that is. As I mentioned in a previous column, I think crisp is better for you than soggy. Again, I may have missed something, because I was told potato chips are not as good for you as mashed potatoes. It seems like “green” is now a buzz word for anything good. Eating is no exception. Always have something green with your meals, they say. HA! Green bananas don’t even taste good! But, then, everything that is good for you doesn’t always taste look –take Brussels sprouts. The worst thing for me is that Mountain Dew doesn’t even count. Well, at least it comes in a green container.
