Saturday. August 13, is International Left Handed day! About 13% of the world’s population is left handed. You might wonder why we get a special day. Well, all the other days must be for you ordinary right handed people. Left handed people are very special people. I should know, I am one of them! We’ve endure lots of jokes about being Sinister, which is Latin for “left.” I’ve written several columns about being a lefty, mostly in August, so I will try not to repeat myself. I remember the chair arm desks in high school and college. I think there were two left-handed chairs for them in high school These were not the large desk you squeeze into, but just an overgrown clipboard sized extension protruding from, usually, the right side of the chair. No wonder my writing is hard to read. Left handed people are so adaptable because we have to survive in a world made for right handed people.
If you look at your computer mouse setup, you can switch it, so that you can easily use the mouse with your left hand. Gestalt, the whole picture, is in the left side of the brain. Might be why I see the big picture, mostly.
This may be a repeat, but I like this. The brain is divided into two hemispheres and the right hemisphere controls the left side of the body, and vice versa ;so - yes, only left handed people are in the right mind – and, yes, for all you right handed people, what a revoltin’ development this is!
