Annie Darling of Broward’s Rock, owner of Death on Demand Book Store, gets involved in yet another murder mystery. I know. There can’t be that many murders in Broward’s Rock. But when you’re looking for a cozy mystery, you overlook such logic. There’s a couple of unconnected murders, one that looks like a suicide. Pat Merridew was the first to die and the only clue anyone has is a picture on her Blackberry of a towel on the seat of what turns out to be a gazebo. Then Pat’s ex-employer (and owner of the gazebo) is found shot in his den, in what seems to be one of those cases like a “locked room mystery.” There were lots of people near the scene of the crime, but all seemed to have excellent alibis. Annie was undaunted and kept working at the puzzle until she got it unraveled, and almost got herself killed in the process. The Death on Demand series has reached 20 now, and there’s every expectation that Annie and her trusty sidekick husband Max will be as entertaining in future books. --Reviewed by Carol Boston - © 2011 |
