As many of you know, I think we should think that when we elect anyone to office, they are getting paid using our tax money, so they work for us!

Attending County Board meeting as well as County Board committee meetings has given me some unique observations. Most of those elected to office understand their obligations, as well as their limitations. It appears to me, though, that a few of the elected Board members lack a basic understanding of their authority.

I received word that I was to be the recipient of a three dimensional wooden Christmas tree silhouette. I thought I’d put lights on it and set in up inside my house near a large window. Mrs. Claus and one of the elves delivered the tree and I set to work. I got the silhouette partway in the door before realizing the doorway was too narrow. I got the tree back outside, closed the door. I measured the tree and

Obsession is like duct tape. It has a shiny side and a dark side. The dark side is the side that gets the most publicity, though. One on-line dictionary defines obsession as “the domination of one’s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea.” A person can be obsessed with work and we may call them a workaholic A person obsessed with wealth may have drive, or determination. We refer to them with positive words, making me wonder if obsession has a negative connotation, although, it may not always not be negative. I remember a Star Trek episode titled Obsession.

By Jerry Riley Recently I spent a few days without my home computer. Oh, I had access to the Internet and email from other computers, but had underestimated my reliance of my system and the connivance of the Internet. I had to make notes on things that would ordinarily just be noted in various computer data bases and make hand written notes on column ideas, which I usually just start, or add to, using the computer. Probably some of you |

By Jerry Riley The James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies” depicts a media mogul who creates news and his services are always there to report it. He said the media has always led the politicians. Is this as far out as it seems? Sure, they used a lot of technology and gadgets in the movie, but is the basic premise true today? Simple observation indicates that it may be. Look at some of the national news broadcasters– |
