Obituary: Joseph Bocian, 69
Morton - Joseph S. Bocian, Jr., 69, of Morton, formerly of East Peoria, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home. He was born Feb. 16, 1939, in Peoria to Joseph and Mildred (Koester) Bocian. He married Sandra Williams in 1962 in Peoria. Surviving are one daughter, Jill (Tim) Johnson of Edwards; one son, Joseph W. (Ana) Bocian of North Attleboro, Mass.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Brenda) Bocian of Metamora and Loran (Ann) Horn of Morton; one sister, Carol (Richard) Herron of East Peoria; and his special friend, Jeannie Goetz of Morton. He was preceded in death by his parents. He served 10 years with the United States Marine Corps, where he served two different tours of duty, first in Korea and later in Beirut, Lebanon. He received a Purple Heart and other distinguished awards. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the U.S. Marine Corps League. He was a graduate of Spalding Academy and Midstate College, both of Peoria. Joseph was employed for 40 years in the electrical utility industry, last working for R.R. Kinyon and Powertel & Associates as a sales representative. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, where a funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, with Fr. Mark DeSutter officiating. Visitation will be from noon-12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton, where full military rites will be conducted. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Building Fund in Morton.
