Upper Limits Indoor Rock Gym in Bloomington is offering Holiday Youth Clinics for children looking for activities to do this winter break.

“We started hosting the clinics for kids that are on break.” Heather Fegan, Upper Limits Activities and Marketing Manager, said. “We wanted to give them something to do while they're not in school, something fun that gets them out of the house and gets them moving without having to be in the cold.”

The two day clinics for kids ages 7-17 run from 1-4 PM on December 26th and 27th and from 1-4 PM on January 2nd and 3rd as well.

The clinics have a variety games and activities both on and off the climbing wall. One of the favorite activities tend to be the Alligator Pitt.

“The Alligator Pitt is where the kids work together to figure out how to swing across a little pitt and get everyone to the other side.” Fegan said. “It gets them communicating with each other and working together as a team to achieve a common, fun goal.”

The climbing games all help teach the kids proper climbing techniques in an interactive way, instead of just lecturing the kids on techniques.

For those that can’t make it to the Holiday Youth Clinics, or for parents that want to join their children in climbing, Upper Limits will be hosting a family day on January 11th from 11 AM to 6 PM.

“This is the third year that we will be having our family day.” Fegan said. “We want to introduce families to climbing, so no previous experience climbing is needed to come and have a good time. Families can sign up for an hour long time slot where they’ll have a staff member with them and helping them as they try the auto belays, climbing the silos, and more.”

On the 18th of January Upper Limits is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a free party.

“For our 20th anniversary party we’ll have free climbing, as well as some other games that we don’t typically have, like crate stacking.” Fegan said.

If you can’t get enough climbing in, the following day on the 19th, Upper Limits will be having its’ one day sale of a $100 off of a yearly membership.

Those who have never climbed, but would like to try, shouldn’t worry about coming in to try it out.

“You don’t have to have any prior climbing experience coming in here, whether it’s for the clinics or just climbing in general.” Fegan said. “We have classes that people can take, as well as orientations to make sure everyone knows what they're doing. There really are things for everyone to do, it doesn't really matter what your age is. We have a lot of programs for kids, but we also have a lot of programs for adults too.”

To register for the Holiday Youth Clinics, or to reserve a time slot at the family day, you can either call Upper Limits at 309-829-8255 or visit their website at www.upperlimits.com/bloomington.
