This Friday, September 20th, Wish Bone Canine Rescue will be hosting its second annual Yappy Hour at the Pheasant Lanes Family Fun Center in Bloomington from 5 PM to 9 PM.
Wish Bone Canine Rescue is a Bloomington based organization that rescues, provides veterinary care, and rehouses dogs from high kill shelters and animal control facilities.
Yappy Hour is a fundraiser for the organization that will help pay for the ongoing care, veterinary costs, and housing for the dogs that they have rescued, among other things.
There are no tickets needed to enter the fundraiser, but a ten dollar donation is suggested. The event is open to the whole family, including dogs.
The fundraiser will have activities for children, dogs, and adults.
“There will be several vendors, a silent auction, live music from Brite Black and Robert Brown Band, paw print art for dogs, and glitter fairy tattoos.” said Peggi Hattaway, a volunteer of Wish Bone that is helping with the fundraiser.
Brite Black is a local trio that plays acoustic and piano alternative rock, and The Robert Brown Band is a Normal based 4 piece blues/rock band that has been known to put on high energy shows.
Food for the fundraiser will be provided by Nacho Mama’s Grilled Cheese food truck. As their name suggest, Nacho Mama specializes in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches with a large variety of ingredients. The truck also serves a variety of drinks and snacks.
Adults looking for a drink will be able to purchase them at both the pub located inside Pheasant Lanes, as well as in the beer garden.
The silent auction taking place at the event will have a large variety of items and services up for bids.
“The auction will include Illinois State University sporting event tickets, dinner-around-town baskets for couples and for the family, several local spa packages, Upper Limits rock climbing gym passes, LA Fitness memberships, Sugar Mama's Bakery items, Great Harvest Bread Company items, and so many more.” said Hattaway.
Wish Bone will also be bringing some of their rescued dogs to the fundraiser, which will be available for adoption.
“This is a unique event because community members can bring their own dogs to socialize with other dog lovers and also support the organization.” said Hattaway. “They can meet other adoptable dogs and learn about the rescue (organization) while having fun and interacting with other animal lovers. It's a great opportunity for the community to support the rescue and get to know more about what we do. It's also a great chance for our dogs to socialize with people and other dogs, and have fun.”
Wish Bone Canine Rescue lives by the guiding principle that saving one animal won’t change the world, but, surely the world will change for that one animal.
