The Miller Park Zoo will hold it’s fifth annual Zoo-Do fundraiser this Saturday, September 7th from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
The Zoo-Do is an adult only event that will feature an evening filled with live music, up close animal encounters, a live auction, and a dinner that is included with the price of the ticket.
Tickets for the event are $65 per person, and are required to be purchased prior to the event.
Each year The Miller Park Zoological Society host the Zoo-Do fundraiser as a way to help raise money for the zoo. Susie Ohley, the development advocate for the Miller Park Zoological Society who is helping organize the event, explained that the money raised will go to a variety of different projects.
“All the proceeds benefit the Miller Park Zoo.” said Ohley. “There are a lot of things on the horizon for the zoo. There’s no shortage of projects going on here (the zoo), so the money will go to a variety of projects in the future.”
Each year the Zoological Society picks a certain theme for the fundraiser. This years Zoo-Do will be Octoberfest themed, which has led the fundraiser to be appropriately nicknamed Zootoberfest.
The Octoberfest theme will be carried across the fundraiser through German style decorations, food, and will even include a live band playing traditional German music.
One of the biggest draws of the event tends to be the up close animal encounters that attendees get to experience.
“There will be a variety of animals throughout the evening. We have close to twenty of our animals that guests can get an up close encounter with.” said Ohley.
Another exciting part of the evening is the live auction that features an extremely wide array of unique and one of a kind services, experiences, and items.
“A few things we are auctioning off include Lasik eye surgery, Disney park hopper passes, art that has been done by some of the zoo animals, as well as a variety of different zoo experiences.” said Ohley. “We’ll auction off the opportunity to bring up to 300 people to the Zoo after hours for a private party, as well as the opportunity to do veterinary rounds with the veterinarian.”
One of the unique aspects of the fundraiser is that it will take place completely outside, allowing for a nice dinner under the stars. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held next door to the zoo at the Miller Park Zoo Pavillion, which will still include all the animals and other festivities that would have taken place outside.
If you are interested in attending this years Zoo-Do Zootoberfest you can purchase your tickets for $65 at https://zoodo2013.eventbrite.com. Tickets are limited and must be purchased prior to the event. There is not a strict dress code for the event, but party casual is preferred and jeans are discouraged. The Miller Park Zoo is located at 1020 South Morris Ave, in Bloomington.
