Helen Robenstein served these at one of our Historical Society functions, and they were moist and delicious. 1 C raisins
1 C water ½ C liquid shortening 1 C sugar 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 ¾ C flour ¼ t salt 1 t baking soda 1 t cinnamon 1 t allspice ½ t cloves ½ C chopped nuts Combine raisins and water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, shortening and egg. Sift dry ingredients into the raisin mixture. Stir in nuts and pour into a greased 10” x 15” jelly-roll pan. Bake 15 minutes at 350°.
