It’s fun for the whole family at Aurora Skate Center as the Aurora 88s, an all-female flat track roller derby league holds an open skate fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 24.

The event will help local derby girls raise money for the league and provide information to interested persons in joining the league.

The open skate runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center, 34W 113 Montgomery Road. Admission is $6, and skate rental is $4. There will be a  silent auction fundraiser as well as kids activities, including face painting.

The Aurora 88s is a skater-owned, skater-operated women’s roller derby league. Their mission is to empower women through athleticism and create an environment of respect to promote skill, confidence, and fun. They also commit to giving back to the community through volunteering time and making charitable contributions.

Anyone interested in joining the league should plan to attend. The 88s are currently recruiting skaters, referees, non-skating officials (NSOs), and volunteers to help out at bouts.

No protective equipment is required for the open skate.

Tryouts will be held at a later date.
