Aurora's Provena Mercy Medical Center recently completed phase one of a two phase renovation project on its medical/surgical and telemetry units.
Forty-two newly modernized patient rooms were officially approved in January by the Illinois Department of Public Health for occupancy.
On. Feb. 2, nearly 100 patients became the first official residents of the newly upgraded suites. This will allow for the second half of room renovation to begin.
In total, this $11 million renovation project will feature ninety newly renovated patient rooms with private bathrooms. The project is expected to be fully completed by late summer of 2012. The new rooms will also feature flat screen televisions, access to wireless internet, soothing décor and ample space for visitors.
“It’s been a long process planning for these new rooms and it’s truly exciting to see it now becoming a reality,” said George Einhorn, Provena Mercy Medical Center Interim President and CEO.
The new rooms will be some of the largest patient rooms in the area. They were designed for the comfort of both patients and loved ones maximizing space and making for a more family friendly environment.
“There was a lot of thought put into the design of these rooms which was centered on the concept of “Patient and Family Centered Care,” said Einhorn. “We see family members as partners in care and want to offer a spacious and comfortable environment so loved ones feel welcome.”
Planning for this move was no piece of cake. Dedicated staff worked tirelessly planning for every situation to make this move a success. All patients were escorted by clinicians avoiding any disruption of care.
