EUREKA – Eureka College Artist-in-Residence David Commanday will make a second trip to Singapore this spring to assist with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra program. Commanday was hired by the Singapore Ministry of Education to consult on the management of the orchestra program and to work with its students.

Yes, it certainly feels like spring has been here for at least a month.

Temperatures have been as high as the 80s, flowers are blooming and the lawn mower has been hauled out of the garage weeks earlier than typical.

But spring really doesn't start until baseball arrives.

PEORIA —Behr Iron & Metal recently launched its “Erase the Waste” campaign in an effort to get students more involved in recycling.

As part of the campaign, students in the greater Peoria area can compete for a $1,000 Visa card that will be awarded to the school that recycles the most aluminum cans between April 2 and April 30.
The winner of the contest will be announced May 7.

Shave-a-Thon among series of upcoming Aurora police efforts

Efforts by Aurora Police officers to help two charitable organizations that assist children are continuing to take shape.

The department’s 6th annual “Shave-A-Thon” which benefits the non-profit St. Baldrick’s Foundation is slated for April 22. Officers are also planning several fundraising events to help Special Olympics Illinois.
