This year’s seminars include several one-day seminars on specific tax topics and 32 seminar locations throughout the state of Illinois for their annual two-day Fall Tax School. All seminars provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit, which is a requirement for Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), Certified Financial Planners (CFPs), Enrolled Agents with the IRS (EAs), attorneys specializing in tax law, and licensed tax preparers. |

For Central Illinois Farmers & Rural Dwellers By Tim Alexander for the News Bulletin Locks Bill Proceeds Without Fuel Tax BLOOMINGTON - The Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA) was among many supporters of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2010 to express disappointment last week when the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed the measure, which calls for the widening of six locks on the Illinois and upper Mississippi rivers, without including the industry-approved Inland Waterways Capital Development Plan. Though members of Congress requested the plan-- designed to help to fund WRDA through the imposition of a new fuel tax for barge operators using the waterways-- it was left out of consideration in the House Committee Room, said ICGA immediate past president Rob Elliott. |

Moffitt Urges Ag Ed Funding GALESBURG - Illinois State Representative Donald Moffitt (R-Gilson) called last Friday to say he sent a letter to Illinois Gov. Patrick Quinn urging him to restore some or all of the $3.04 million line item for agricultural education in schools that was stripped from the state budget. Quinn has been granted discretion over restoring some programs that were cut using money from the state’s general revenue fund, and Moffitt wanted to remind Quinn of the relevance of ag education in Illinois schools. |

According to University of Illinois agricultural economist Darrel Good, some of those changes were driven by information in the USDA’s June 30 Acreage and Grain Stocks reports and some were driven by changing U.S. and world production prospects. |

Patrick Quinn’s July 1 $1.4 billion bloodletting of the state’s budget includes several cuts to agricultural programs for the next fiscal year, including millions for agricultural education in high schools. Education, in general, took quite a hit with the elimination of $70.5 million in grants, along with deep cuts in mandated categorical services such as special education. |
