Eureka College Students to Portray Figures from Eureka’s Past in Sept. 12 Cemetery Walk
Aug. 25 auditions also open to community members

EUREKA – The Eureka College Theater Department and the Woodford County Historical Society will hold their third annual cemetery walk from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at Olio Township Cemetery, 1015 S. Main St., Eureka. The rain date is Sept. 19.
Eureka College students and community members will portray figures from Eureka’s past.

EUREKA -  The striking monument of Goodfield cattleman Henry Robinson stands above most of the others in Olio Township Cemetery. The story of Robinson and seven others buried in the cemetery will be featured in this year’s joint Cemetery Walk sponsored by the Woodford County Historical Society in cooperation with Olio Cemetery, Eureka College, and Eureka Christian Church.

ROCKFORD - Once again Rockford residents can enjoy the family-friendly activities of Bookerfest. Held at the Booker Washington Community Center, 524 Kent Street, it will begin Saturday, August 7 at 11:00 A.M. and run to 10:00 P.M. There will be carnival rides, food vendors, merchandise vendors, community information booths, and entertainment. Admission is free.

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois State Fair will once again thrill visitors with a wide variety of entertaining options.
Thursday, August 12 will be Preview Night with a twilight parade, discounted carnival rides, and the Society Horse Show along with judging for junior beef and heifer showmanship.
Friday will be County Fair Day featuring the queens from 105 fairs and expositions across the state. The six days of harness racing at the fair’s one-mile dirt track will get off to a fast start. It’s also Hometown Pride Day, honoring Decatur.

MOMENCE - The 73rd annual Momence Glad Festival has adopted a country theme this year. It will run from Wednesday, August 11 through Sunday, August 15 and will have something for everyone to enjoy. The Princess and Queen coronation will be on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the High School Football Field. Admission to this presentation is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.

TOULON - The first weekend in August is the traditional time for the Old Settler Days, an event that began in 1877. The celebration starts off Wednesday evening with a Hymn Sing at the Methodist Church. Thursday night there will be the Miss Teen, Junior Miss and Little Miss OSA pageant, and a BBQ dinner at Connie’s on Main Street.

Friday there will be an American Legion Fish Fry, Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull in the Park, a Beer Garden, and a Cemetery Walk. The music for Friday evening will be provided by ‘Coco Loco Band’ on the Main Stage.

WASHINGTON - The St. Jude Washington to Peoria Run will be held August 7. Runners will meet at Washington Community High School at 10:00 AM and will complete one- and two-mile legs at a ten-minute mile pace so that no one is left behind and they run as a group. There are runners on the road throughout the day, and runners can do as little or as many ‘legs’ as they want. The goal is to meet the runners coming in from Memphis at about 6:00 PM in Peoria.

EUREKA, Ill. – Four home games and a trip to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome highlight the 2010 Eureka College football schedule released by second-year head coach Kurt Barth. The Red Devils will start the season with three consecutive non-conference games in September, followed by a seven-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference schedule that will begin Sept. 25.
The Red Devils will open their 107th season of football at home for the second consecutive season when Eureka hosts Benedictine at McKinzie Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. The contest marks the first meeting between the former Illini-Badger Football Conference rivals since 2007. The Eagles have a 16-5 advantage in the all-time series with Eureka that dates back to 1972. Eureka will play its first road game of the year the following week when it visits Duluth, Minn. for a 4 p.m. kickoff against St. Scholastica. Eureka will visit Wisconsin-Stout for the second consecutive season on Sept. 18.

 ROANOKE - The Woodford County Swim Meet offered a bit of relief from the heat to the youthful contestants, but the judges and spectators sweltered in the mid-90s as the mid-summer heat wave continued its hold over the Nation. ROCKFORD - the Northern Division Collegiate Wood Bat Baseball World Series will be played at Marinelli Field Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1. Game one is set for Saturday at 7 P.M.; game two will be at 1:00 P.M. and game three will be at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday.

KANKAKEE - The 46th Annual Kankakee County Fair will get an early start on Wednesday, August 4. The gates open at 7:00 A.M. for the beginning of judging for 4-H projects. The carnival rides start spinning at 3:00 P.M. And the fun and food go on all day. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for seniors (65+), veterans (with military I.D.), and children 3-8 years of age. Children 2 and under are admitted free.
