By Jerry Riley I’ve decided to become a candidate seeking the position of Precinct Committeeman representing the Republican voters of Olio 2.
When I mentioned this to a friend, she said she thought I had said I would never run for political office. I did say that, but intelligence provides for a change of mind. Only history will tell me if this change was indeed intelligent. It took me several days just, to decide which of my 61 hats to throw into the ring. I selected one that I can wear with pride. That tells people exactly who I am! Why do I want to enter the political arena? People had given me various reasons when asking me to seek this position. I probably gave it more thought than it deserved, but I want to represent the views, opinions and criticisms for the voters of Olio 2. My understanding is that the more Republican ballots cast in the Primary in Olio 2, the more influence I will have when I address your concerns with the local party. By the time this is published, I will be available at the Republican headquarters, at 106 South Main Street in Eureka on Wednesday from 9:00 to noon. If you want to discuss my candidacy, local issues, or, just to see which hat I selected, feel free to stop in. I will also be available at home, by phone, or email. Of course, you can usually catch me walking around town most days. Why a Republican Committeeman? Historically, the GOP has been the dominant party in this area for decades. In order to maintain this position, they may need my intelligence, wit, and, yes, sarcasm–and what a revoltin’ development that is. Jerry Riley is an occasional commentator for the News Bulletin.
