PEORIA - The 2009 Illinois MAKE IT WITH WOOL CONTEST will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the PARC Center in Peoria, IL, in conjunction with the Central Illinois/Peoria Chapter American Sewing Guild’s “Sew Special.” The day will include garment judging, special wool classes, modeling, judges’ comments and a style show. Winners will be announced at the end of the Make It With Wool style show, Saturday afternoon.

A minimum of 60% wool for each fashion fabric or yarn is required. Specialty fibers such as mohair, cashmere, alpaca, camel, llama and vicuna may be used.
Categories include: Jr., Sr., Adults, and Made for Others. May enter: One-piece garment (dress, jumper, outerwear jacket, coat or cape). Two-piece outfit (coat, jacket, cape, blouse/shirt, vest or sweater with dress, jumper, skirt, pants or shorts). Ensemble--3 or more pieces worn together at one time (coat, jacket, cape, blouse/shirt, vest and/or sweater with dress, jumper, skirt, pants or shorts.
To be eligible, a garment must have been completed after January 1, 2009.
The contest is open to male and female contestants. Adult (over 24), Senior (17-24), Junior (13-16), Pre-teen (12 and under), Made for Others (any age). The age category is determined by the age of the contestant as of December 31, 2009.
The purpose of the contest is to focus attention on the beauty and versatility of wool; encourage the use of this incomparable fabric or yarn in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning and weaving wool fabrics and yarns; offer the opportunity to compete for valuable prizes; and recognize sewing knitting or crocheting skills.
There is also a Fashion/Apparel Design Competition. This separate competition is available for college students enrolled in this curriculum. This is a $1,000 scholarship.
